Competition Notes

On a balmy August day, 14 of us made the trip out the middle of nowhere that is Farrington. The day started in the normal fashion, i.e Coffee, Bacon Sandwiches and Horst being heroically late. The course was in good condition, the rough was not too tough and the greens were pretty true. As always, with this course, the major problems were the wind and the up hill and down dale nature of the course. In first place with 35 points, was Keith Sealy, who now has to play off 17. At this rate, sometime next year, he might not be a Bandit. Chris Lauder came second with 33 points and gets a new handicap of 18. Three people tied on 30 points, Alan just pipping Lefty Len and Big Boy Stuart on count back. Martin Walters won nearest the pin and just ( his words) lost out to Horst for the longest drive. I was playing with Horst and he was a good 5-6 yards past Martins effort. Tony won the sweepstake with a guess of 382 against an actual total of 384. I can not be sure but I think he almost cracked a smile when he picked up the money. Andrea picked up the Hacker award with 19 points and Andy West won himself an hours hard labour on the weekend away with a 10 on the Goffer hole. Funny moments: Well this goes to Horst and his love affair with trees. He managed to hit 4 trees on the first 3 holes. From there it just got worse, it did not matter if it was an ancient majestic Oak or a young thin sapling . If it was anywhere between Horst and the hole, he was going to hit it. On the Goffer hole, he hit 3 different trees and knocked his ball through a hedge. He looked mightily relieved when he heard Andys score. His crowning moment came on the 18th when he managed to hit a young sapling from about 10 yards. The sapling could not have been more than 1 and a half inches in circumference. The next event is at Peterstone Lakes on September 9th. As usual, keep an eye out for further details from Stuart.
