Report by Stuart Southgate
Seventeen of us made the trip out to the flattest course course we ever play. Over the coffee and bacon rolls, there were only two real topics of conversation. The first, Englands surprising win over Germany at Football, the second, Ernie Elss putting at Augusta the night before. The course was very dry and playable, minimal rough and decent greens. It looked like scoring would be good. Two players finished on 38 points. They were Ian and Des, with Ian just taking third on count back. I played with Des and apparently his next task was to fly to Georgia to give Ernie a putting lesson. Lefty Len claimed second with 39 points with some steady golf. In first place was Horst, with an excellent 41 points. Tamworth has been unusually kind and only cut him FOUR shots! A new record low score was set by Dan with a massive TWO points. I am assured that he spread them out on the scorecard and did not get them both on the one hole. The previous low score record of Three was set on the first society day ever. Nearest the pin went to Ian with a cracking shot to a couple of feet, resulting in a 2. Rich Green, who was playing with Ian, also had a 2 on the same hole. Longest drive went to Andy West who was playing in the last group. Lots of us hit long drives but Andy had the foresight to put his in the fairway. We had two new players at Lansdown, so a warm welcome to Mike OShea and Andrea Brancaccio. Unfortunately, Andreas first prize with the society was a spell as the GOFFER, to be served at a later date. Mike was so struck with his day that he signed up for the weekend away and even paid his deposit. Keith picked up the sweep with a guess of 480 against an actual score of 482. Rich Green was given the player of the year award for 2015. At least he managed to accept it fully clothed! The next event is at Cumberwell Park, so as normal, keep an eye out for emails - texts from Stuart.
